Is World of Books a legitimate company?
Yes. World of Books has been recirculating books since 2002 and operates in the UK, US, and Australia. We're one of the largest re-use companies in the world.
How do I know the cause actually receives the money?
We only allow donations to IRS-verified 501(c)(3) organizations. Funds are transferred via our nonprofit payments partner and you'll get a confirmation once the charity receives the donation.
Does World of Books take a fee?
No. 100% of your trade value goes directly to the charity you choose. World of Books covers all processing costs so every dollar reaches the cause.
Can I claim this on my taxes?
Donations made through World of Books to a verified 501(c)(3) charity are tax-deductible in the US.
You'll receive an emailed receipt with the charity's EIN that you can use when filing your return.
What is an EIN?
An EIN stands for Employer Identification Number. It is a unique 9-digit number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to identify a charity or nonprofit for federal tax purposes. It essentially acts as the organization's "Social Security Number."
For example: Doctors Without Borders USA is registered with the IRS as MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES USA INC, EIN 13-3433452. If you search by the common name and can't find it, you can search by this EIN instead.
Can I split between cash and donation?
Not yet — for now you choose one payment method per trade. We're exploring split payouts for a future release.
What if I change my mind?
The payment method you choose is locked in when you complete your trade, so pick "Donate to a Charity" before completing if that's what you'd like. If you've already submitted and want to switch between donating and cash, you'll need to cancel your trade before it's processed and start again. Once your items are received and processed, the donation is sent to the charity and can't be reversed.
